![]() Not entirely a "shoot aliens in the face" story that Halo is known for. ![]() Basically, it was a "turns out you work for the bad guys" kind of story. I can only assume they were afraid the story they wanted to do wasn't "Halo" enough.īasically, much like how the marketing revolved around Chief going AWOL and an in-depth investigation into ONI, the SPARTAN program, and huge amounts of corruption present in the UNSC, the story was originally going to revolve around that. They had an angle they wanted to go for, built some amazing marketing around it (Hunt The Truth is one of the best marketing stunts I've seen aside from I Love Bees), and then dropped all of it. I also think 4 is the apex of actual story in a Halo game (but ODST and Reach are my favourites cause I love that crushing defeat tone).īecause the game was heavily rewritten after the marketing had been solidified and started trickling out. Note: I actually enjoy playing 5 and don't hate its story. If we'd reached 5's ending's created conflict, Cortana's control and the Guardians fanning out across the galaxy to enforce peace a bit slower and with more meticulous world building, I think it would've been well received. ![]() I think 5's narrative as a whole, while not the best, is more a victim of its context failing to naturally reach that point. All of those get cut off, didn't amount to anything to change the status quo post 4, and then 5 just started something new out of the blue "oh btw Cortana is alive and bad now". Between the Didact (yes he survived 4), the Janus Key and Librarian's Plan, Jul M'dma, Halsey's Capture and treason, the Promethean Relics on Earth and Requiem, etc. The state of the universe post 5 is actually pretty interesting and a cool setting, but the steps to get from 4-5 feel rather sudden. The main problem with 5, at a more critical level than just "I didn't like it", is that it took a lot of the threads from 4 and Spartan Ops and even its own marketing material, ignored them and went off and did it's own thing. /r/GamePhysics - Clips of game physics shining and glitchingĭesign based on /r/FlatBlue created by /u/creesch./r/gaming4gamers - middle ground between purely-for-fun and more serious subreddits./r/GamingLeaksAndRumours - Leaks and Rumors.Posting unmarked spoilers will result in removal and warning, and posting spoilers with malicious intent will result in a ban.
